2010 State of Origin Game 2 QLD Team – Folau Retains Maroon Jersey

June 8th, 2010

Queensland Origin selectors have named the Maroons team for Game II of the 2010 Harvey Norman State of Origin ahead of Wednesday week’s showdown.

The Maroons are looking ripe to claim their record fifth straight Origin series on June 16 at Suncorp Stadium after securing a tidy 28 – 24 win ahead of the Blues in the Origin opener on May 26.

In a controversial decision by the selectors, Israel Folau has retained his Maroon No. 5 jersey despite recently signing a deal with the AFL. Folau obviously impressed selectors last Sunday when he showed exactly what he was made of in a stunning performance scoring two tries in the Broncos big win ahead of the Sea Eagles.

The addition of the in-form Folau is another blow for the Blues who facing their fifth straight Origin series loss are suffering with many of their top players in doubt due to injury and impending judiciary decisions.

The Blues have named a 21-man squad ahead of the final team being announced tomorrow morning following the news on whether or not Hayne and Lewis beat their charges and are cleared to represent their state.

The 18th man for Queensland is Folau’s teammate Jharal Yow Yeh, who has also played a strong part in the Broncos recent resurgence in the NRL.

With the Maroons looking to make minimal changes to the dominant team who outclassed the Blues in Sydney, the only other alterations are the addition of the Bulldogs Ben Hannant who steps in for injured warhorse Petero Civoniceva, and Matt Ballin being replaced by returning star hooker Cameron Smith.
