State of Origin Teams 2012 – Game 3

June 27th, 2012

We are just a week away from the do-or-die 2012 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series decider at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday July 4, and the State of Origin teams for both sides have now been announced.

The New South Wales Blues managed to beat home the six-time defending series champs down in Sydney for Game 2 and have named a nearly identical squad for the big clash Wednesday week.

The only official change to the Blues State of Origin team was the sacking of Akuila Uate whose lapses in defense during the opening two games has seen him dropped from the squad.

To fill his spot on the wing will be St George Illawarra flyer Brett Morris who joins his twin brother Josh Morris in the Blues jersey.

Blues coach Ricky Stuart named a 19-man line-up keeping his official back-row shrouded in mystery until the 11th hour.

Manly’s Glenn Stewart has been called up in the second row but his fitness is still pending after he suffered a partial medial ligament tear a week back.

Also on the tentative six-man bench is fellow Sea Eagle Tony Williams who missed game two with injury but who looked in flying form during Manly’s 52 – 14 win over the Sydney Roosters last Sunday.

The mighty Queensland Maroons meanwhile have named a 20-player line-up with coach Mal Meninga covering all bases as he sweats on the fitness of a number of his stars.

Named in the Maroons State of Origin Game 3 team despite injuries are the likes of ace Storm fullback Billy Slater (knee), Broncos skipper Sam Thaiday (shoulder) who ruled himself out of Game 2, and fellow Brisbane player Justin Hodges (ribs).

Thaiday tested out his shoulder with the Broncos big 26 – 12 victory over South Sydney last Friday night and he looks good to go.

With Thaiday back in Rabbitohs forward Dave Taylor has been downgraded to the bench, but he might not even make the final interchange line-up with others on the wood including North Queensland fullback Matt Bowen, Dane Nielsen and Ben Te’o.

Also injured but ruled out of playing is the Gold Coast’s Ashley Harrison (broken toe) who will be replaced by Corey Parker, the Broncos veteran a good chance of running out in the Maroons starting line-up for the first time in his representative career.

The Maroons are out for their seventh straight series victory which would be a fairytale sendoff for the retiring Petero Civoniceva.

The bookies think them a top chance of doing just that too, Queensland favourites in the State of Origin odds at bookmaker.com.au at a quote of $1.60.

New South Wales meanwhile are the $2.35 underdogs in the State of Origin betting markets to put an end to the Maroon’s reign in what would likely cause a 50,000 strong riot at the old Lang Park.
